The eight tracks that make up 'Energy Explosion' range from three songs firmly in straightforward riff-based hardcore punk to groove-funk bass over a hip-hop drum loop, post-hardcore over a disco beat, a melodic hard rock song that often borders on AC/DC cheese, a pop-punk song that mixes in frenzied ska-punk upstrokes with an unforgettable lead hook, and an island-jazz parody closer that is fried with overdrive. The guitar and drum loops were recorded with low-tier equipment in February 2005. The lyrics, bass, and vocals were done in 2021, 16 years later. The title track explores the positive spiritual experience of hard, fast rock music in the hope that people who associate such music with anger and negativity will be able to understand. "Based" explains how not allowing your worldview to become debased can make you the best version of yourself, and the concept scales socially. "NPC" may be one of the most insightful hard rock pop songs ever recorded in one take as an improvised set of riffs on a 4-track cassette recorder. "Guideposts" tells of living and leading by example by going your own way in a world of desperate users lost in an expansive bog of confusion and deceit. "Triggered" may be the standout hardcore punk contribution at the album's climax, but "A Streetlight Blur" quickly follows to tie a melodic bow atop the driving force and unrelenting righteous consciousness expressed amidst the ever-evolving train of social distractions when one remains constant and sure. This album is diverse in lo-fi hard rock style while maintaining a confident consistency, achieving what was envisioned when these riffs and chord progressions were committed to tape as fresh ideas sixteen years prior.
